SNAP 50/SPUR 467 KVA EXPERIMENTAL GENERATOR DESIGN SUMMARY.

Abstract

The inductor type ac electric power generator was selected to meet the specified voltage, frequency, power factor, and environmental conditions for the 300-kw SNAP-50/SPUR Rankine nuclear-dynamic space power system. An optimum electromagnetic stator and rotor design was determined during overall system weight studies using speed and temperature as design variables. The basic design that was determined served as a reference for the design and partial manufacture of an intermediate Experimental Generator and Integrated Generator which are discussed at length in the report. Several associated component development programs were carried out to minimize development problems associated with a full scale generator.
