A MULTIFREQUENCY ACOUSTIC TRANSMITTING SYSTEM.

Abstract

An acoustic transmitting system incorporating a towable projector that operates in the 1 to 10 kHz frequency range has been developed. The optimum operating frequencies for the system are 1.3, 3.0, 5.3, and 9.0 kHz which correspond to the four resonant frequencies of the transducer. The sound pressure levels generated by this system range from 80 to 93 dB relative to one microbar at one meter for the four operating frequencies. The transmitting system has been successfully used in the measurement of one-way horizontal propagation characteristics to ranges of about 10,000 yards. The flexibility of this acoustic transmitting system should permit it to be used for a variety of acoustic measurements.
