PHOTOIONIZATION OF O2 IN THE METASTABLE A 1 DELTA G STATE.

Abstract

An apparatus is described for the preparation of large concentrations of metastable 02(A1 delta G) and for detection of the excited molecule by photoionization in the vacuum ultraviolet. A measurement of the onset wavelength for the process is used to deduce an improved experimental value for the ionization appearance potential of ground state which is 12.067 plus or minus 0.001 eV.
