AN EVALUATION OF AN EXPERIMENTAL METER READING TRAINER.

Abstract

Thirty soldiers took part in an evaluation of a proposed meter reading trainer under three condtions of pre-instruction. The following conclusions are drawn from this experiment: (1) There were no differences in the performance of the subjects which could be attributed to the effect of the three different pre-instructional methods used in this study. (2) A statistically significant degree of improvement in performance was observed between the first set of twenty items, constituting one trial, and the repetition of the same twenty items which constituted a second trial. (3) Statistically significant differences were noted between the subjects in terms of the number of items worked correctly. (4) The items presented by the meter reading trainer are heterogenous with regard to difficulty. This difference in difficulty is related to whether the item requires only consideration of parallax, in order for it to be responded to correctly, or whether it also includes interpolation.
