AN ELECTRODE FEED SYSTEM FOR A SEGMENTED ELECTRODE MHD ACCELERATOR.

Abstract

The distribution of power to a large number of electrodes in a segmented electrode, cross-field accelerator requires a very complex feed system if each electrode pair is to be electrically isolated from all others to prevent the undesirable flow of current in the axial direction. An arrangement for interconnecting groups of electrodes on a single feed system (and power supply) that also supplies the requirements for zero axial current flow has been developed for the Aerospace MHD wind tunnel. The characteristics of this electrode feed system and its advantages, at least for a pulse-type facility, are described. (Author)
