ASPECTS OF CUMULATIVE DAMAGE IN FATIGUE DESIGN.

Abstract

The significant aspects of cumulative damage in fatigue are reviewed with the purpose of providing the structural designer, the test and the reliability engineer concerned with fatigue in metallic structures with a summary view of these aspects which he may find helpful in sorting out the relevant from the irrelevant information in the extensive technical literature on this subject. It was not intended to prepare a literature review, since up to date reviews are currently available, but to extract from the huge volume of published information a few basic facts that are directly relevant in fatigue design, structural fatigue testing and fatigue reliability estimation.
