INVESTIGATIONS OF BROADBAND FERROMAGNETIC POWER LIMITERS AND EXPANDERS AS DUPLEXING ELEMENTS FOR MICROWAVE SYSTEMS.

Abstract

A traveling-wave limiter has been designed. A single-crystal YIG slab was placed in a dielectric-loaded waveguide, and the coupling between the waveguide mode and n=1 surface magnetostatic mode was calculated. The length of the YIG slab needed for converting electromagnetic energy into magnetostatic energy over a fairly broad frequency range was calculated. Experiments are being conducted to test the possibility of using this device as the broadband, low-level microwave limiter. The performance of an expander using a ferrite sphere inside a helix, has been evaluated. The loss inside the helix structure has been identified. (Author)
