THEORETICAL OPERATING LIMITATIONS OF THE VARIABLE-STABILITY F-8D.
Abstract
A variable-stability system developed for an F-8D will enable this airplane to perform as a longitudinal handling qualities research vehicle. Short period frequencies ranging from 0.2 pi to 4 pi radians per second should be attainable, while maintaining a relatively fixed level of stick force per g. Tolerances are set forth regarding weight, altitude, and airspeed variations during evaluation flight testing.
