DEVELOPMENT OF AIR-TO-AIR RANGE CAPABILITY WITH TACAN EQUIPMENT.

Abstract

A modification of the airborne portion of the TACAN system has been developed to obtain bilateral air-to-air range without use of the TACAN ground station. The air-to-air link is established by use of image mode reception, and ranging is made possible by the addition of a transponding function. Maximum use of existing circuits and components affords a self-contained modification requiring no increase in size and no aircraft wiring changes. (Author)
