THE BRITISH COMPUTER SCENE, PART IV, THE UNIVERSITIES.

Abstract

A survey of the British computer scene was undertaken in late 1966 and early 1967. The authors acknowledge the encouragement of the Information Systems Branch, ONR. The purpose of the survey was to review the state of development of the British computer scene and to identify future trends. This report is fourth in a series. It describes the university efforts in computing science. Computer development, language development, computer tuition, and computer usage are covered. The first report in this series is the Government Impact on the Computer Scene' (ONRL-21-67); the second is 'The British Computer Industry' (ONRL-27-67); the third is 'The Regional and National Computer Centres' (ONRL-28-67). Other reports (Parts V and VI) will cover the management schools; computer interests and a summary of the series. (Author)
