DEVELOPMENT OF AN ANTICIPATORY TYPE D-C OVERVOLTAGE SENSING RELAY.

Abstract

Efforts concern the development of operating and performance criteria applicable to a procurement specification for an anticipatory type of d-c generator overvoltage sensing relay. The anticipatory overvoltage sensing relay constitutes an entirely new concept in overvoltage sensing for d-c systems. It is basically a two-coil polarized relay. The two coils are designated voltage sensing (X) coil, and bias (Y) coil. The voltage sensing coil senses overvoltage and the bias coil discriminates between normal system transients and overvoltage faults by desensitizing the operating coil during normal system transients.
