STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF NFSS BUILDINGS. VOLUME II - NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.

Abstract

The statistical frequencies of occurrence of selected structural attributes in a sample of National Fallout Shelter Survey (NFSS) buildings in five cities are reported in five volumes as follows: Volume I, Providence, Rhode Island; Volume II, New Orleans, Louisiana; Volume III, Detroit, Michigan; Volume IV, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Volume V, San Jose, California. The structural characteristics of the buildings analyzed include: floor area, number of stories, total building height, foundation, substructure, exterior walls, apertures, frame, roof, floors, and interior partitions. These data, in a statistical sense, provide a basis for determining the blast resistance of fallout shelter buildings. A sufficient number of buildings was surveyed in each city to give a relative standard error of approximately twenty percent for an estimate of an attribute which occurs in twenty-five percent of the buildings in each city. A brief summary of the most pertinent results observed for each structural detail is given in each volume. Appendix materials include the raw data as collected in the field, the list of sample buildings, the Data Collection Form (DCF) used by the field survey teams, the instructions used by the survey teams in completing DCF's, and the relative standard errors.
