A REALIZABILITY THEORY FOR SMOOTH LOSSLESS TRANSMISSION LINE - PART II.

Abstract

The report continues the discussion of the terminal behavior of nonuniform transmission lines that was initiated in a previous report. The fact that this study can be reduced to a consideration of the problem of inverting a Sturm-Liouville operator is again exploited to yield necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a smooth line having given terminal behavior; the conditions are given explicitly in terms of the input reflection factor of the line when it is terminated in a resistive load. The discussion leads to an iterative procedure for the synthesis of the corresponding line. Attention is also given to the transfer scattering coefficient of these lines, particularly to the questions of existence, uniqueness, and approximation concerning these functions. (Author)
