EVALUATION OF HELMET SIGHTING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE WHEN USED WITH AREA SUPPRESSIVE FIRE.

Abstract

This report consists of two parts: (1) Evaluation of target acquisition time and target tracking performance of the Simplified Control System (SFCS) on a stationary target. (2) Evaluation of in-flight firing tests on a stationary target utilizing the SFCS1 in place of the pantograph reflex sight as part of the XM16 (M6) armament system installed in a UH-1B helicopter. Results of the target acquisition time and target tracking flight tests indicated that performance was equal to or superior to other unity power non-stabilized sighting systems with the additional advantage of providing hands-free training of flexible area and suppressive fire armaments throughout the entire azimuth and elevation weapons excursions. Time to acquire targets was on the order of 2+ seconds at all train angles. (Author)
