DOUBLE-BASE BINDER IMPROVEMENT

Abstract

An investigation is underway into the physico-chemical factors controlling the mechanical behavior of slurry cast and base grain composite double-base propellants, the preimary objective being to improve the mechanical properties of slurry cast systems at least up to those of analogous base grain systems. During this first quarter, efforts were concerned with planning, procurement, and initiation of a program to establish a meaningful physical property comparison between base grain and slurry cast CMDB propellant and among slurry cast propellants containing various types of NC. Further effort was initiation of a task to investigate binder/propellant microinhomogeneities using tritium autoradiography.
