IMPROVED FREQUENCY STANDARD DESIGN.
Abstract
This is the first in a series of quarterly engineering reports which will show the progress being made to improve the performance of the Frequency Standard and to reduce its cost. Now, the purpose of this additional effort is to (1) improve performance of the Frequency Standard and (2) reduce its cost through the further use of integrated circuits and the Master Slice design of integrated circuits. The design and development phase includes a study of methods by which circuits can be simplified, expensive components can be eliminated, and the total number of components in the system can be reduced without compromising system performance. Standard types of digital and analog integrated circuits will be used wherever applicable. In addition, Master Slice integrated circuit designs will be performed for some portions of the system. The outcome of this program will be an Improved Frequency Standard. The effective date of the contract, 7 December 1966, resulted in some delay in program staffing due to the interruptions of the holiday period. For this reason, the circuit design and analysis phase of the program has been extended beyond the period shown in the Proposed Program Schedule. However, a sufficient portion of the circuit design work has been completed which will allow the mechanical design and system design to proceed on schedule.
