CORONA PREVENTION IN THE SST WIRING SYSTEM

Abstract

The high altitudes and temperatures associated with SST supersonic flight and the use of electrical power at 230/400 volts introduces the need for design precautions to avoid corona or sparkover. As part of the wiring development program, investigations including a literature search, data analysis, and laboratory tests were conducted to determine the precautions required. An approach is presented which is intended to simplify the design for corona prevention. Further investigation and confirming tests are still to be conducted.
