SIMULATION OF UNSTABILIZED MANEUVERING UNITS.

Abstract

A simulation program, utilizing analog and hybrid computer equipment, has been devised to analytically compare unstabilized space maneuvering units. Required properties of the maneuvering unit system are mass, moments and products of inertia, and thrust force and moment vectors. Output includes time plots of parameters of motion, thrust on-off profiles and fuel consumption. Variations in maneuvers, logic limits and initial conditions provided data for comparing the Astronaut Maneuvering Unit with the Hand-Held Maneuvering Unit and for investigating the effects of different rotation limits, the effects of asymetrical thrust, and the results of omitting cross products of inertia from the program.
