EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF HEAT TRANSFER FROM A HEATED ELLIPTICAL CYLINDER IN TWO-PHASE (AIR-WATER SPRAY) FLOW.

Abstract

The effect of water-air mass flow rate ratio (MR) and water drop diameter (d) on the local film heat transfer coefficient, and heat transfer area on the overall heat transfer coefficient (h sub o), for a heated elliptical cylinder in two-phase (air-water spray) flow was investigated. Data indicated increasing value of Local Nusselt Number based on cylinder major diameter/Air Reynolds Number based on cylinder major diameter with increasing MR to 47 times the maximum single-phase air flow value. Variations of d from 90 - 170 produced negligible increases in heat transfer. Values of h sub o were 16 - 18% higher for the elliptical cylinder than for a circular cylinder with the same projected frontal area. (Author)
