HIGH TEMPERATURE POLYMERS FROM 1,3-DIPOLAR ADDITION REACTIONS.

Abstract

The synthesis of a new bis-sydnone N,N'-hexamethylene-bis-sydnone has been accomplished by the cyanomethylation of hexamethylenediamine followed by nitrosation and dehydration. The polymerization of N,N-hexamethylene-bis-sydnone with p-diethynylbenzene and m-diethynylbenzene yielded poly (1,1'-hexamethylene-3,3'-p-phenylenedi-pyrazole) and poly (1,1'-hexamethylene-3,3' -m-phenylenedi-pyrazole) respectively. The homopolymerization of 2,2'-diphenyl-5,5'-p-phenyleneditetrazole has afforded poly (1,4-dipheynl-3,6-p-phenylene1,4-dihydro-1,2,4,5-tetrazine. A series of polymerizations with 2,2'-diphenyl-5,5'-p-phenyleneditetrazole in which the monomer balance was varied has been carried out. (Author)
