EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF A 50 KVA LABORATORY MODEL SUPERCONDUCTING GENERATOR.

Abstract

The objective of this exploratory development program is to experimentally determine the operating characteristics of the 50 KVA laboratory model superconducting generator which was investigated and fabricated under previous contracts. The tests will include steady-state balanced and unbalanced loads, transient-response, non-sinusoidal loads, pulsating torque from the prime mover, and quenching effects due to overcurrent, high flux density, temperature rise and vibrations. The load banks were assembled, connected to the load control panels and tested with the load control panels; the generator innerchamber assembly was repaired and leak-checked at room temperature and at LN2 temperature; auxiliary tests were conducted with unsilvered superconductive ribbon; and the generator armature was rewound.
