ARRAY BEAM SWITCHING STUDY.

Abstract

The effects of short pulses on the beamforming networks of large arrays, with particular emphasis on switch-controlled beamforming networks, are considered in this study. This report includes a study of uses and implementations of orthogonal and nonorthogonal switched beam systems, including discussion of crossover switch forms grouped by power level and bandwidth. Results of the experimental development of wide-band six-port hybrids at 450 and 1450 HMz are detailed along with suggested applications. An analytical program for cascading scattering matrices is outlined and computed results detailed for the 4 x 4 and 8 x 8 Butler matrices. Some results of the experimental measurement program for determining scattering matrix coefficients of switches and other components are presented. (Author)
