HIGH POWER MODULATOR (SCR).
Abstract
This final report is a detailed description of efforts expended on the design and development of an experimental solid state pulse modulator. The product improvements made to the type 291 thyristors are described. The development of a thyristor stack assembly is described. In addition, circuit design improvements, particularly in the area of switching series connected thyristors are discussed. An experimental pulse modulator having a minimum hold-off voltage of 10 KV and switching 420 amperes has been designed, constructed and tested. A preliminary design for a 65 KV modulator which utilizes the switch 'building block' used in 10 KV experimental modulator is also described. (Author)
