DESIGN OF A DATA TRANSMISSION SYSTEM FOR USE OVER SEA WATER.

Abstract

A communications link over sea water between two low antennas is investigated. Both analog and binary data are to be transmitted with high reliability, and the transmitter is required to be light, rugged and simple to maintain. PCM-FM is shown to be superior to other modulation techniques under these conditions. Propagation loss and system noise power are calculated at various frequencies in order to choose an optimum carrier frequency. (Author)
