SERVICE TEST OF MEMBRANE, AIRFIELD SURFACING, T-17 (RECOVERY PHASE).
Abstract
Service Test was conducted at Fort Campbell, Kentucky during the period 5-8 April 1967 with troop support furnished by the 931st Engineer Group. The objective of the test was to determine the recovery and repackaging rate and percentage of membrane recovered in usable condition. Using a crew of 28 men 79.7 percent of the membrane was recovered in usable condition in 194 manhours giving a rate of 769 square feet per man-hour. The membrane was cut along both sides at the edge of the runway and on both sides of the overlap joint and then blanket folded into 9 by 72 ft strips which rolled into bundles 9 ft long and 3.5 ft in diameter and secured with four 1/2-inch metal bands. It was concluded that the membrane can be recovered and repackaged by the described method at a rate of 770 square feet per man-hour and that 80 percent of the membrane was recovered in usable condition.
