SODIUM, POTASSIUM, AND CHLORIDE ION CONCENTRATIONS IN SERUM OF NORMAL SHEEP.

Abstract

Serum sodium, potassium, and chloride concentrations were measured in Rambouillet-Columbia female sheep living at an elevation of about 5400 feet above sea level and subsisting on a commercial feed. Samples were taken from 159 individual sheep to provide an estimate of these serum electrolytes in a population of sheep. A group of 8 sheep was sampled weekly and another group of 10 sheep was sampled daily to reveal normal fluctuation of these serum electrolytes in individual sheep. Individual values stabilized following satisfactory adaptation to their environment and to repeated venipuncture. (Author)
