GENERAL DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS FOR A RANDOM ACCESS STORAGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.

Abstract

A general design is specified for a Random Access Storage Management system, called RASM to make effective use of the random access devices available in the GE 635 time-sharing system environment. RASM concerns itself with the problems of: allocating space on disc and drum; furnishing logical as opposed to physical accessing facilities of those media; controlling access to the data filed in the system; furnishing back up protection against catastrophic hardware or system failure.
