TACAN CW INTERFERENCE.

Abstract

Project effort was directed toward obtaining quantitative data showing the effects of various CW levels on beacon facility operation. The effects of CW interference on the operation of the Type RTN-1 and RTN-2 Rho-Theta Navigation Equipment were determined. The level of the CW radiated by the AN/ARN-21B and AN/ARN-21C Airborne Interrogators was measured in 'receive only' and transmit modes. The measured values for the various equipment combinations are presented. It was concluded that the level of spurious RF-CW radiated by certain airborne interrogators tested was of sufficient magnitude to cause transfer or shutdown of Rho-Theta Navigation Equipment located near taxiways and/or runways of airports. Several possible fixes are presented with comments on effects, but further effort is required to determine which, if any, would be acceptable. (Author)
