SERVICE TEST (AIR DROP) OF OVERHEAD ATTACHMENT SYSTEM FOR UH-1B/C AND UH-1D HELICOPTERS.

Abstract

The Overhead Attachment System was tested in the U.S. Army UH-1B/C Helicopter and the UH-1D Helicopter. During conduct of the test, 175 parachute jumps were made from the UH-1B/C Helicopter and 284 parachute jumps were made from the UH-1D Helicopter. All jumps were made using the Overhead Attachment System. The Overhead Attachment System, when mounted in the UH-1B/C and UH-1D Helicopters, in the retracted position is suitable for delivery of personnel by Parachute. Procedures developed for parachuting from the UH-1B/C and UH-1D Helicopters, when equipped with the Overhead Attachment System, are suitable. If the Overhead Attachment System, mounted in UH-1B/C and UH-1D Helicopters, is found suitable for the primary purpose of rappelling, it is recommended that: It be adopted as an alternate means for delivering personnel by parachute; The procedures for delivering personnel by parachute developed during this test, be published.
