PRODUCTION REFINEMENT OF KU-BAND TRAVELING WAVE TUBES.
Abstract
The purpose of this program was the design and delivery of two tubes which attain approximately 1 kW pulsed power at Ku-band and use PPM focusing. The tubes which were fabricated under this program incorporate a gridded gun which provides beam transmission consistently higher than 87 percent. A ring-loop RF circuit, scaled from a 1-kW X-band tube design, is highly successful and stable. In the PPM focusing structure, four racks of radially magnetized Alnico V magnets provide a peak field of 2750 G on the axis of the circuit. The total package measures 8.1 by 2 by 2 inches, weighs 2.9 lb, and is conduction cooled.
