MINIATURE CRYSTALS FOR SSB APPLICATIONS IN COLDWELD ENCLOSURES AND CRYSTAL UNITS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURE BONDING.

Abstract

This project is in three phases. Only Phases II and III are covered by the subject contract. Phase II calls for the development of a 5 mc resonator in a coldweld equivalent of the HC-18/U holder, with performance characteristics suitable for single side-band or temperature compensated oscillator applications. Phase III calls for 3 mc, 10 mc, and 100 mc resonators bonded to withstand a bake-out temperature in the neighborhood of 500 C. The preparation of sample 5 mc units, 0.275 inch diameter, is discussed. Bonding materials capable of withstanding high temperatures are discussed, including a gold germanium compound, and two ceramic materials.
