IMPLICATIONS OF MILLIMETER WAVE RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY ON NAVAL PROBLEMS.

Abstract

This technical report contains a survey and critical analysis of the existing and projected millimeter wavelength state-of-the-art. This data has been used to perform preliminary systems studies in the areas of radar, communication, and radiometry. The results have indicated that only short ranges are practical for radar and communication systems. However, this region of the spectrum offers other advantages which are not easily realized at microwave frequencies. Because of the current higher level of receiver development, radiometer systems are presently available. Areas where further research and development would result in improved performance have been pointed out. (Author)
