TRAFFICABILITY TESTS WITH A TWO-WHEEL-DRIVE INDUSTRIAL TRACTOR.

Abstract

Trafficability tests (12 self-propelled and 4 maximum drawbar pull) were conducted in a heavy clay soil to determine performance capabilities of a small, two-wheel-drive industrial tractor. The minimum soil strength required for 50 passes of the vehicle, or the vehicle cone index (VCI), was determined from these tests to be 49. The VCI computed by a revised (March 1967) mobility index formula was 51. The one-pass VCI determined from the self-propelled and limited maximum-drawbar-pull tests was 27, or 55 percent of the experimental 50-pass VCI. (Author)
