INVESTIGATION OF LARGE AREA DENDRITIC WEB TYPE GERMANIUM PHOTOVOLTAIC CELLS.

Abstract

The purpose of this contract is the investigation of the use of germanium web for large area TPV cells. During this report period, N-type germanium web of resistivities between 0.05 and 1.0 ohm-cm was grown. Cells were fabricated on web as well as on slices from a Czochralski crystal; both diffused and alloyed junctions were made. Contacts were evaporated silver-titanium; anti-reflection coatings, applied to some cells, were evaporated SiO. Cells were evaluated under a carbon arc solar simulator and under tungsten light; in these tests the diffused-junction cells were superior to the alloyed-junction cells. A 1400 C radiation source for TPV cell testing is nearly complete. (Author)
