THEORETICAL PHYSICS AND MATHEMATICS IN HUNGARY TODAY.

Abstract

Some of the most important work in theoretical physics and pure mathematics in present-day Hungary is reviewed. In the introduction, the cultural and intellectual climate of Hungary today is outlined. Section II gives a review of the work in theoretical physics at the University of Budapest. Section III outlines the activities of the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy; and in Section IV the experimental work of Janossy and collaborators at the Central Research Institute of the Academy is discussed and analyzed as to its significance concerning fundamental questions in quantum mechanics.
