COMPATIBILITY OF MATERIALS FOR AMMONIA REGULATOR LIP SEALS,

Abstract

On the basis of inertness to ammonia, the materials tested fall into the following sequence (most inert at top of list): (1) FEP Teflon (Polyfluorinated ethylene propylene); (2) KEL-F (Polytrifluorochloro-ethylene); (3) Tedlar (Polyvinyl Fluoride); and (4) Vac-Pak (Polyamide). Mylar is completely unsatisfactory. Complete disintegration of samples occurred in 30 days in anhydrous ammonia. Initial failure was observed after 14 days.
