RESEARCH, DESIGN, FABRICATION AND TESTING OF FLYABLE QUADRUPOLE MASS FILTER SYSTEMS.

Abstract

Five flyable quadrupole mass filter assemblies were designed, fabricated, and tested. Each consists of a three-inch quadrupole, a secondary electron multiplier, an enclosing Dewar, and a zeolite sorption pump. Techniques for bonding the zeolite to the support structures were refined. The liquid nitrogen line fittings were integrated into the cylindrical periphery of the package. A fine mesh screen was inserted to isolate the pump volume from the quadrupole. The electron multiplier was mounted on a gold-gasketed flange. (Author)
