SIMULATION AND GAMING METHODS FOR ANALYSIS OF LOGISTICS (SIGMALOG): GENERAL DESCRIPTION.

Abstract

Methodologies for the simulation and gaming of logistics operations have been the subject of the research work under the simulation and gaming project at RAC. This work has been in support of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics of the US Army and is oriented basically towards problems related to overseas theaters of operations. A set of computerized models has been developed for representing various logistic considerations of a theater of operations. The SIMALOG System in its present state of development includes a Theater Manpower Model, a Theater Materiel Model, and Theater Movements Model, a Theater Medical Model, a Theater Maintenance Model, and a Theater POL Model. A Theater Construction Model is under development. For purposes of military analysis and computational convenience, the the theater under study is divided into geographical subdivisions, i.e., regions, and the military operation is divided into a succession of time periods of specified length. The population of the theater is divided into a number of users, each having a defined materiel consumption rate, casually rate, or other characteristic. Materiel is divided into classes and categories within class.
