SUPER-POWER BEAM TYPE SWITCH TUBE.

Abstract

This report describes the second phase of an experimental investigation to determine design parameters for a super power switch tube capable of voltage hold off of between 300KV and 400KV and switching currents between 350 and 400 amperes for pulse durations between 25 and 2000 microseconds. This phase was devoted to evaluation of a tube designed and fabricated under phase one and evaluation of two additional improved model switch tubes constructed during this phase. These vehicles were tested in tetrode service to voltages greater than 200KV and included switching peak currents in excess of 100 amperes at pulse lengths of several microseconds. The preliminary design of a linear beam tetrode switch tube for series switch service was completed. (Author)
