DEVELOPMENT OF A BROADBAND, S-BAND AMPLIFIER FOR USE IN THE SIGNAL PROCESSING TEST FACILITY.

Abstract

Efforts were continued on a program to develop the VA-915A, a broadband, high-power, S-band amplifier suitable for use in the Signal Processing Test Facility (SPTF) at RADC. Several electron guns were assembled and tested. Computer work was carried out on the broadband klystron rf input circuit, and experiments leading to a better understanding of rf input circuit requirements were carried out on TV-2. Progress was made toward the attainment of an excellent TWT rf output circuit match, now under 1.5 VSWR across the SPTF bandwidth. Several collectors were assembled. Coolant flow vs pressure drop tests were completed. The first two beryllia block rf output window assemblies were completed and resonant ring tested. Electrical design work on the VA-915A alternate pillbox window design was completed, the match across the SPTF bandwidth being under 1.07 VSWR.
