MUCH ADO ABOUT ZERO.

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the high frequency of zero demands often observed for inventory items. Modifications are made to the Poisson, stuttering Poisson, and negative binomial distributions. In the resulting distributions the mean, variance (excepting the modified Poisson) and the probability of zero demands may be specified, subject to certain restrictions. Further, it is shown that when the above are specified the resulting distributions are completely determined. (Author)
