HYDRAULIC PLUMBING FOR ADVANCED AEROSPACE VEHICLES.

Abstract

This report outlines further progress in problem areas establishing the permanent and detachable joints and details tests and exploratory work with these hardware items. Detachable Fittings for one inch O.D. tubes were received from the manufacturer. These three types of fittings were tested for the purpose of comparative evaluation in conformance with the Phase II Part I plan. Four types of permanent joints were tested. These were the standard butt weld and the upset butt weld. A swaged permanent joint was also indirectly tested as part of the detachable fitting program. Fabrication and instrumentation of the Aluminum Tube Simulator has been completed and all associated major test equipment in place and operable. The final tube routing and placement and choice to tube supports has been determined and both tubing and clamps installed in the simulator. Reduction in the number of tube sizes in certain areas of the simulator was undertaken with only a small reduction in useful information foreseen. All environmental input systems have been checked out and after minor modifications appear capable of inducing representative environmental inputs to the plumbing simulator. Results are presented of the first 'Calibration Tests' to be performed on the simulator.
