ORBITAL FUEL CELL.

Abstract

The objective of the contract is to obtain and demonstrate the fuel cell technology required for a 550-watt-hour-per-pound fuel cell power system for unmanned Air Force orbiting vehicles. The fuel cell system will be required to supply cyclically varying output current ranging from 9 amperes to 30 amperes at a voltage between 22 to 30 volts for mission durations of 720 hours. The fuel cell system is to consist of two or more 28-cell hydrogen-oxygen capillary-type fuel cell modules with the necessary controls and instrumentation to make each capable of independent operation from a common reactant storage system. The work is to be carried out in four phases consisting of a Study phase, a Design phase, a Fabrication phase, and a Test phase. The work will result in the preparation of engineering design specifications for the required system.
