A DEVICE FOR SHAPING CRYSTALS BY ETCHING (EINE VORRICHTUNG ZUM FORMGEBENDEN BEARBEITEN VON KRISTALLEN DURCH ATZEN).

Abstract

An apparatus is described which permits the cutting of shaped forms from crystal without deforming it in any manner. A yarn is saturated with an etching agent and the saturated yarn is pulled along the line to be cut while it bears on the crystal surface with minimum pressure. The construction of a device operating on this principle is described in detail. In an example discussed, sodium bromide crystal was cut by using a yarn saturated with a sodium dithionate solution.
