DESIGN CALCULATIONS OF VESSELS FOR STORAGE OF LOW BOILING LIQUIDS WITH VAPOR COOLED RADIATION SHIELDS (UBER DIE BERECNUNG VON GEFASSEN ZUR AUFBEWAHRUNG TIEFSIEDENDER FLUSSIGKEITEN MIT DAMPFGEKUHLTEN STRAHLUNGSSCHRIRMEN).

Abstract

Design calculations for jacketed spherical containers with a cylindrical neck for the storage of low-boiling liquids were described. The equations characterizing the relations between dimensions, radiation-shield temperature, heat transfer (both at the spherical portion and the neck), and insulation were derived. A numerical example was presented to illustrate the application of the equations. This example dealt with a vessel in which the jacket contained helium vapor.
