RAPID PREPARATION OF QUICK-CURE RESIN TEST SITES IN SOUTHEAST ASIA. PART II. REMOTE SITE PREPARATION EQUIPMENT.

Abstract

The objective of this program was to design and fabricate a set of replacement equipment for Remote Site Preparation and to check out and make preliminary field trials of this equipment. The primary performance objective for this equipment was to have the capability to fabricate in 8 hours a 100- by 100-foot remote site having a 3 pounds per square foot coating, composed of polyester resin reinforced with fiber glass. This equipment was to include all items necessary for site prepreparation, materials application, and site edging. The equipment was to be palletized where practical, size and weight minimized, and all items were to be air transportable. To fulfill these requirements a pumping and spraying system was designed with a nominal 20 gallon per minute resin flow rate. This flow is externally catalyzed and spray bar applied to a 78-inch wide power dispenser fiber glass fabric. The system consists of nine primary items and five secondary items. The checkout tests and the preliminary trial site tests indicate the equipment to have the capability of preparing a 100- by 100-foot remote site of 3 pounds per square foot density in 8 hours. Additional conclusions and recommendations are reserved until the completion of additional tests and trial sites, which will be reported in Contract AF 33(615)-3068 Phase II Final Report. (Author)
