HANDBOOK OF SOVIET ALLOY COMPOSITIONS.

Abstract

This handbook, which identifies Soviet metal and alloy designations, is the first revision of the original handbook published August 25, 1959. The format of this edition is essentially the same as that of the original handbook. Data on compositions, specifications, designations, and other miscellaneous information are compiled in 21 tables. In these tables metals and alloys are classified according to alloy system and composition, with these exceptions: the stainless steels and the coppers and copper alloys are grouped according to commonly accepted commercial classes of alloys, and the cast irons are grouped by the mechanical properties and the microstructures of the alloys. When only a range of compositions could be found, or when compositional information was incomplete or lacking, the following notations were used in the tables: (1) Nominal and estimated composition (N. Comp. and E. Comp.); and (2) Actual analysis (A. A.), i.e., only a laboratory analysis was reported in the literature (often referring to a nonstandard experimental alloy). Where possible, the designations of the nearest equivalent U. S. alloy or those of other countries (notably the U. K.) have been included in the tables.
