EXPLORATORY RESEARCH ON ULTRAVIOLET LASER.

Abstract

Work is reported on an unsuccessful effort to obtain CW lasing in Argon gas at 3638 A. Novel techniques included the use of beryllium oxide discharge tubes and current densities as high as 750 amps/sq cm continuously and 3000 amps/sq cm on a pulsed basis. Peak output power of 10 mw at 3638 A for a pulse duration of 300 microseconds was obtained at 500-1000 pulses/seconds. (Author)
