COMPARISON OF FULL SCALE AND MODEL DATA OF THE WIND VELOCITY OVER THE CVS 16 FLIGHT DECK,

Abstract

Full-scale measurements of wind-over-deck were made at various points about the flight deck of the CVS 16, and at corresponding points about a 1/144-scale model of the carrier in a wind tunnel. Comparison of the data shows that the model flow field is not a geometric replica of the full-scale field. Generally, model tests appear to understimate the severity of the flow disturbance caused by the carrier. Some typical data on time variations of full-scale flow are presented. (Author)
