THE EFFECT OF CONSTANT LIVING CONDITIONS ON THE BUFFER CAPACITY OF SALIVA (DIE WIRKUNG KONSTANTER LEBENSVERHALTNISSE AUF DIE PUFFERKAPAZITAT DES SPEICHELS).

Abstract

The buffer capacity of the saliva of 52 children was investigated in 397 tests. The children were in a state of rest during these tests. The saliva of the children that were living under a constant condition had a significantly higher buffer capacity than in those children in which the surrounding environment was not homogeneous, that is, in those children living with their parents. Within certain groups there were differences in the buffer capacity of children that had good and those that had bad teeth which did not always show statistical significance. The differences in the buffer capacity of the saliva in the children living under constant conditions and those under inhomogenous conditions is attributed to the nutritive and environmental factors.
